HIMALAYA
The essence of the Himalayas
At the foothills of the Himalayas, where the air is thin and the sky seems within reach, Juniperus Indica grows shaped by fierce winds and ancient wisdom. A land where each botanical tells a story of extreme adaptation and millennia-old tradition.
The journey to our Himalayan botanicals is an odyssey that begins with small propeller planes, continues with hours of off-road driving on impossible roads, and ends with long treks that take us to remote villages on the slopes of the highest mountain range in the world. It is here, above 3,500 meters in altitude, that we meet the local communities who guard the secrets of these extraordinary botanicals, the same botanicals that give our Himalayan Gin its unique character.
The Botanicals of the Himalayas
- Himalayan Juniper (Juniperus Indica): Resinous and fresh, with subtle notes of pine that tell the story of the thin air in which it grows.
- Timur Pepper (Zanthoxylum Armatum): A citrus spice with a distinctive mountain kick
- Black Cardamom (Amomum Subulatum): Deep smoky notes
- Rhododendron Flowers (Rhododendron arboreum): Delicate high-altitude floral notes
- Hibiscus Flowers: Tangy and slightly sweet notes
The Harvest
The harvest of botanicals in the Himalayas is more than just a process: it’s the organization of a true expedition. Members of the local communities scale steep slopes and cross ancestral paths to reach the harvesting areas. Their deep knowledge of the land and the botanicals is essential: they know exactly when and where to find each ingredient at its perfect moment.
The journey of the botanicals from the Himalayas to the distillery is another adventure in itself: we must coordinate the transport with the rare flights that connect these remote areas to Kathmandu, in a dance that follows the unpredictable rhythms of the mountain.
